It has been a very long time since I last made a cover of someone else’s song. What I said does not mean that I have only made original songs during this long while, rather, I just didn’t do a lot. The last cover I did was The Wind (technically it was The Longest Time, since I made the video for The Wind earlier, but audio file wise, it’s still The Wind).

Album Cover

This is actually the only Album Cover picture that wasn’t made 100% by myself. If it was completely my decision, this album cover wouldn’t be drawn.

This is actually my friend Ailin’s idea to have it drawn. She imagined a setting of:

Night Sky
Pink river (symbolizes love)
People jumping into it, preferably two people in love, holding hands

I was like, that sounds awesome! So I asked her to draw it for me and she said yes.

Evolution of the Picture

Version 1

This is the version that I drew, using the app “Sketch” on iPad.

I might have been good in some areas, academically or otherwise, but drawing was always something I was not particularly good at. I drew this based on what Ailin has suggested. She laughed when I sent her this image, understandably. But this format, i.e. the way where things are, is set.

Version 2

This is the version that Ailin drew, using Photoshop. See that’s an expensive app I didn’t think she would buy just for this picture.

She used my concept on Version 1, and really cooked up something astonishing. By the way I did not know she could draw, not to mention this good.

She told me that she spent the most time on the jumping person. This one looked kinda like the guy is base jumping and didn’t have a parachute, so I asked her to change the guy’s pose.

Version 2.5

After Ailin changed the pose for the guy, it didn’t look as if the guy was base jumping. It looked as if the guy was just diving. At this point, Ailin told me that she had used multiple layers when creating this picture, which is another shocker to me because she has never used Photoshop before, and she has figured out to use Layers.

I also asked her about the “River of Hearts” kind of imagery. She said it’s not good looking and sent me this.

Version 3

This is the final version that Ailin sent me. I forgot to tell her that the picture is supposed to be 3000*3000 as per music store regulations. But no one is going to enlarge it as to distort it, so it doesn’t matter.

Now she added another person, and now it looks like they are trying to suicide together, like Romeo and Juliet. Luckily she used multiple layers so it is easier for me to edit later on.

Final Version

This part is what I am good at. I am perhaps not the best at creating something brand new, but I can always improve the hell out of it.

I went online and searched for Sakura trees, which I guess other people call it “cherry blossom tree”. Normally I would never use a clipart from another person when I am doing my cover picture. This one I found online said it’s free to download for commercial use, so hey, thanks guys, I’ll link it here.

I made the moon more round, added hearts to the “river” or “sea”. Lastly, I completely redid the poses of the little people, so they look like they are actually enjoying themselves jumping.
