The Wind (Classical Guitar)

Yusuf / Cat Stevens, Performed by Brian the Amateur

(Listen at the bottom of the page)

I first heard the song at Season 7, Episode 23 of How I Met Your Mother, and I was grabbed immediately. I dreamed of being able to play this song, but then I didn’t even have a guitar.

To learn more about how I first started record this song, click here to go to the page “The Wind”, where I have elaborated more.

When I first tried recording the acoustic guitar version with the guitar plugged into the speaker, it gave me a really unpleasant sound for such a peaceful music. That’s when I thought, hey, maybe I should buy a classical guitar to get more of that muted sound.

I asked my friend Aileen, who plays professional with classical guitars, if Cat Stevens used the classical guitar in his song, but she said no. Then, I figured, I should buy one anyways because I might one day play the song “Spanish Romanza”. When I bought this (click here to read more) guitar, I immediately started playing “The Wind”, and the sound shocked me. It gave me such a warm sound, that I am drunk in it. My friend Aileen was right, the sound of a classical guitar was not the one I heard in Cat Steven’s original song, but damn it does it sound good. That’s when I decided, hey, I should do a separate song and video, just for the classical guitar version of the song. Maybe I will even sing it at a wedding some day in the future. I don’t know.

Even though the original song was lower than my normal line of voice, and even though I have already upped the pitch for the acoustic guitar version, I still wanted to do this version in the original key, because the lower it is, the more peaceful it is. I had to record the lowest point like “never” at mornings, because that’s when my voice can reach the lowest. The end result was pretty good. I have also sped down the song, just because I want it to have more of a “ring” to it, and the end result was pretty surprising, well, in the good way.

Notice there’s no serial number for this song? That’s because I chose not to publish it to major music platforms like Spotify and iTunes alike. I have to pay $12 for every cover song that I want others to hear, ANNUALLY! I mean, I am already losing money at this, why double it by uploading a very similar version? Unless people ask for it, I’m not going to just pay another $12 annually for fun. You can still find it at Soundcloud and other free places like Netease.

Everything is pretty much said in “The Wind” page, click here to go to the page.

I just added new line, saying “With Classical Guitar”, to differentiate it from the normal cover.
