Day 8

The only objective I have for the day is to check out our new car. My brother in law was still very hungover from yesterday night, so I was the one who did the driving. After we arrived, we started to inspect the car.

I took the pictures after the doors were locked, so I didn’t take pictures of the inside. This car is fully specced out, with rear seat entertainment screens that have HDMI and USB-C connections and even a removable Samsung tablet to control rear seats and the entertainment screens.

It doesn’t have auto-open doors, which was missing on all 2020-2022 cars because of part shortages due to covid. It does have semi-auto-close doors, though, if you pull on the doors for a little bit, it will close for you. Isn’t as cool as gesturing the door to close, but close enough. The car was shipped from the Tianjin Port, so it was very dirty.

The car also doesn’t have a license plate yet, so it is illegal to do a test drive with it. Luckily my brother in law’s dealership is located in a parts and services center where it has a lot of empty room for roaming. With our car, the 580, the car has 2 electric motors and can accelerate from 0-60 in 3.7 seconds, which is slower than most EVs, but after two accelerations at sports mode, you will feel dizzy from the torque hitting you in the head. I am very much excited to drive this car in the streets of Dalian. For now though, it will have to stay at the Foshan dealership awaiting proper documentation.

After inspection, it was time for lunch. Since we both liked the Pig Feet Rice so much, me and my brother in law went to the same Pig Feet Rice restaurant that I had on Day 3 again. Turns out, he ate at that restaurant so much, the owner already knows him very well.

Lunch was good, but since we ordered extra toppings things time, we both couldn’t finish. After lunch, we went back to his office, and my brother in law recommended that I go visit Yangshuo, Guilin. Yangshuo is like a village that is extremely well known for its beautiful mountains and lakes. Even though I have absolutely no interest with just looking at the nature, but he was very insistent and said I would regret it if I didn’t, so I went with his suggestion.

After a while, it was time for me to pick my nephew up from school. His dad said that I could go out and buy him a Nintendo Switch game if he finishes his homework; but his homework load that day was too big. It was all copying and writing, so I let him stop half way to go buy the game and then come back to finish the homework.

I am such a good uncle.

Back at home, I started to do research on Yangshuo. It really is a famous place and looks very beautiful. I was going to book a hotel, but there are too many options ranging from just 200 RMB to 3000 RMB, and I was dizzy from so many different choices out there. I decided to sleep on it and look for a hotel on my train ride there tomorrow.
